Book Club Dinner and Discussion

Please note that the December 4th book club meeting has been moved to...

Tuesday, December 18, 2007

from 6-8 p.m.

in the HMS Library Media Center

Join us and guest speaker, Dr. Sue Adams of the ALSDE - Prevention & Support Services , as we meet to discuss the mind blowing novel Th1RTEEN R3ASONS WHY, by Jay Asher. In addition to dinner, there will be door prizes and a few "special treats" from Jay Asher!

When Clay Jenson plays the casette tapes he received in a mysterious package, he's surprised to hear the voice of dead classmate Hannah Baker. He's one of 13 people who receive Hannah's story, which details the circumstances that led to her suicide. Clay spends the rest of the day and long into the night listening to Hannah's voice and going to the locations she wants him to visit. The text alternates, sometimes quickly, between Hannah's voice (italicized) and Clay's thoughts as he listens to her words, which illuminate betrayals and secrets that demonstrate the consequences of even small actions. The message about how we treat one another, although sometimes heavy, makes for compelling reading.

I wish I could be there in person. But, since I can't, I hope you all enjoy my little gifts. And I hope the evening is both enjoyable and informative.

Take care,
